NREPA PARCELS    beta

NREPA parcels have been converted to .kml file format for viewing in Google Earth. You need Google Earth installed on your computer (download Google Earth). Click on a link below to download a .kml file for that state/area. Downloading takes 10-60 seconds, depending on size and your internet connection. When the .kml file has finished downloading, click on it, which will open Google Earth and display the map file. These .kml files will not display in Google Maps.

Parcel descriptions of proposed wilderness (in red) are taken directly from House bill 'Amendment in the Nature of a Substitute to H.R. 980' (H.R. 980 ANS)

  • Proposed NREPA wilderness displayed in red.
  • Zoom in for better display of colored parcels.
  • Zoom in further for display of parcel name and pushpin.
  • Click on pushpin for parcel description taken from 'Amendment in the Nature of a Substitute to H.R. 980.'
  • Any notes or comments about a parcel should reference the unique ID at the end of the description enclosed in the square brackets. Example: [883]. This is the only way to definatively identify a parcel because sometimes several parcels have the same name.
  • Some parcels described in H.R. 980 ANS are not mapped because they are not found or named as such in the map file. See the 'notes' file for each state.
  • Questions about the mapping? Contact me (Craig Bacino) at or 406.461.9283.

Parcel categorized as being in a given state may fall outside that state's boundaries because:

  • the national forest spans state boundaries
  • the parcel may span multiple national forests
  • misnaming of national forest in the map file
