Gary
Macfarlane, President
Gary resides outside of Troy, Idaho, at the edge of the Palouse praire/forest
interface. He is current Forest Watch Director with Friends of the Clearwater
in Moscow, ID. Gary has been involved in wildland and wildlife conservation
issues for over 20 years. He is especially concerned abot the wild Clearwater
country--the Clearwater, Nez Perce and St. Joe National Forests. This
region contains the most importatn habitat for large carnivores in all
of the US and Canadian Rockies. Gary is an avid Wilderness hiker and
enthusiast.
Michael Garrity
A professional economist has a long history of working with AWR, ensuring
our programs are based as much in sound economics as they are in biological
science.
John Walden
works for the National Center for Appropriate Technology in the Sustainable
Energy Program. John has worked on projects ranging from the use of
photovoltaics in agriculture to advising low income housing developers
on energy efficiency. Currently John is working on a program to promote
the use of wind- generated electricity on a residential scale. Mr. Walden
holds an engineering degree from MT Tech and an International Relations
degree from University of Montana.

Stewart Brandborg, is a former executive director of The Wilderness
Society and a key figure in passage of the 1964 Wilderness Act and the
Alaska Lands Act.
Tim Coleman, is executive director of the Kettle Range Conservation
Group in Republic, Washington.
Dr. John Craighead, is a world-renowned scientist honored by
The National Geographic Society. He pioneered grizzly bear research
and is founder of the Craighead Wildlife-Wildlands Institute.
Derek Craighead
Jim Dayton, is the founder of Wilderness Watch and has several
decades experience in the conservation movement.
Dr. Sara Johnson, is the head of Native Ecosystems Council and
is working with the Alliance on timber sales.
Dr. Charles Jonkel, is an internationally recognized bear biologist
with over 70 research papers on grizzly bear, polar bear, and black
bear. He is the founder of the International Wildlife Film Festival.
Clif Merritt, was a national leader in The Wilderness Society
and is the founder of American Wildlands. He has been active in conservation
work for over 50 years.
Ron Mitchell, is the Director of the Idaho Sporting Congress
Arlene Montgomery, is the Program Director for Friends of the
Wild Swan. She has been active in Northern Rockies regional environmental
issues since 1988.
Chuck Pezeshki, is a professor at WSU in mechanical engineering
with a strong interest in
environmental protection and author of the book Wild to the Last:
Environmental Conflict in the Clearwater Country
Kathy Togni, is an attorney with long experience in environmental
law including involvement with the Friends of the Wild Swan.
Mark Alan Wilson, is the director of Picture
Tomorrow, a nonprofit organization that provides photographic and
design services to grassroots environmental groups.
Howie Wolke, is a wilderness guide and author of Wilderness
On the Rocks and co-author of "The
Big Outside."
George Wuerthner, is a widely published writer, photographer,
and ecologist.
